Day 2 in Hawaii
We decided to scout out the island today, as we are looking for a place to stay for the duration of our time here. We made one HUGE circle and saw almost the whole island!! We drove North to Hilo, then took Saddleback Rd North/West towards Waimea. We love this area – but its really expensive! We then turned South and headed towards the Kailua-Kona area. Beautiful drive. It was really bad traffic in Kona – probably since the tsunami waves took out part of the coast. I read that 7 houses were damaged/destroyed as well as 5 cars and some road damage. The Lord had his hand on us. We had originally planned on staying in Kona and might have been in more danger than we were on the other side of the island.
South from Kona, we made it around the bottom of the island and then East towards the Volcano. Haven’t checked it out yet. We then passed through a town we really liked – which happens to be the most southern town in the entire United States. Cool! We ate a yummy local meal (Mahi-Mahi burgers, Lau Lau – which is pork and ButterFish steamed in a tea leaf, and shredded pork) in the town of Volcano and then made it back to our abode.
Burnell and Orin were obnoxious for most of the day … too much driving and being cooped up. Sorry guys! The little guys were amazing. We’ll see what tomorrow holds for us. Praying that we find a place to stay and a good “rig” for our time here. We finally have internet access at our house so we can keep you all updated, as well as search for places online.
Sounds like a crazy fun adventure! Hope to hear about the origin of it some day... How long are you planning to live in HI?
ReplyDeleteSoak up some sun for us in the great north west!

So glad you are doing this blog, dear Marilee. We are missing you, but rejoicing that Dwight is not having allergies and that you all are making some lifelong good memories as a family!
